Shape of Dreams Characters: All Nine Travelers and Their Roles
Shape of Dreams has nine Travelers in its version 1.4 roster, including Cetus. Lacerta and Mist are the starting choices; the others offer ranged magic, frontline defense, healing, summons, and more technical melee movement. This roster reflects the game as of September 24, 2026.
Choose how you want to fight before comparing a finished build. A Traveler's normal kit gives you a starting direction, while the Memories, Essences, and Stars you choose can change how that character plays.

Pick a Traveler for the way you like to fight
For a first run, choose Lacerta or Mist. Lacerta suits players who want to keep enemies at range and fire into safe openings. Mist suits players who enjoy entering melee, landing hits, and moving out before the return attack. Both are available without a separate unlock objective.
For ranged magic, compare Bismuth and Yubar. Bismuth emphasizes sustained damage through her spellbook and movement. Yubar offers powerful star magic from a distance. Range gives you room to work with, but it does not remove the need to avoid attacks or protect your casting space.
For a team-focused role, decide how you want to help. Vesper occupies the frontline, Aurena combines healing with health-cost decisions, Nachia brings spirit companions, and Cetus controls space while supplying shields. These support and tank labels describe what they contribute; they do not mean the characters cannot deal damage or play solo.
For technical melee, look at Shell. The wooden-doll assassin rewards deliberate positioning and movement around enemy weaknesses. Choose that style because you enjoy controlling engagements, rather than assuming a demanding character must be stronger than a simpler one.
Yubar: ranged star magic
Yubar is a being born from dreams who governs the creation and destruction of stars. His role is ranged mage, with powerful magical attacks that let him apply pressure from a distance.
Choose Yubar if you want spellcasting rather than Lacerta's firearms or Vesper's close-range frontline role. You still need space to cast safely, so the appeal is the kind of damage you deliver and how you position to deliver it. A shared Memory does not turn every Traveler into the same mage.
Aurena: healing with a health tradeoff
Aurena is a sage expelled from the Lunar Arcanum Society after researching forbidden knowledge. In combat, she is a melee battle healer whose own life force fuels her abilities.
That health tradeoff belongs at the center of the choice. Pick Aurena if you enjoy balancing your own condition against the damage and support you provide, rather than expecting a healer who can ignore personal risk. Her role combines aggression and recovery; it is not a promise that one specific Essence is required for every viable approach.
Cetus: Cold control and shields
Cetus joined the roster in The Starless Path, version 1.4. He is a ranged warrior who accumulates Cold in his body, releases burst damage, and creates glaciers and icy zones that control enemy movement.
He can also shield himself and his allies. That makes him an option for players who want ranged offense alongside defensive tools and control over the space around a fight.
To pursue his unlock, dig through Piles of Snow. There is no fixed count or guaranteed spawn route established here, so use that as the objective to look for rather than a promise that one particular room will unlock him.
What changes when you swap Memories?
Two Travelers can equip some of the same items without sharing the same underlying strengths. Your chosen character supplies attributes, dodge behavior, Traveler Memories, and character-specific Stars. Those differences affect which combinations fit naturally and what you give up when changing the starting loadout.
Keep these layers separate when comparing characters:
- Memories are skills. Common Memories let you replace or supplement the character's starting tools during a run.
- Essences modify the Memory they are attached to. A strong equipped interaction is part of the build, not automatically an innate character ability.
- Stars shape the pre-run constellation. Character-specific effects can support a particular skill or change the way a Traveler handles a weakness.
- Identity Memories provide distinctive passive behavior. The original Identity is important, but version 1.4 added six common Identity Memories that can replace it through progression.
You can experiment with shared equipment, but compare the resulting build against the character's stats and special effects before deciding that all Travelers play alike. Likewise, one powerful combination is not enough to establish a universal character ranking.
