Is Shape of Dreams Crossplay? Platforms and Joining Requirements

Which platforms can play together?

PC support includes Steam and Xbox on PC. PS5 players share the crossplay lobby pool with PC and the other console versions, so PC and PS5 friends can play together under the same settings and mod restrictions as the other combinations.

Four players is the total online party size, not four guests on top of the host. You can also play solo. For native editions, device support, and local-player limits, check the Shape of Dreams platforms guide. Crossplay support alone does not establish shared purchases or cross-platform save transfers.

How to enable Cross-Play

1. Open Settings.
2. Find Cross-Play and set it to ON.
3. Have every player in your mixed-platform group check their setting before trying to join.

A Steam invite does not bypass the game's Cross-Play eligibility. If one person has the setting disabled, sending another invite will not replace the need to correct the party's settings.

PC mods restrict console crossplay

Console versions do not support mods. A PC player with mods enabled is restricted from console crossplay and can only play with players who have Cross-Play disabled.

For a PC-and-console group, disable the PC mods and turn Cross-Play ON before joining. Do this on every modded PC in the party; changing only the console player's setting will not remove the PC restriction.

If your group wants to keep playing with PC mods, use a compatible PC-only group with Cross-Play disabled. That puts you in the appropriate matchmaking pool, but it does not guarantee that any combination of mods will work together.

Online requirements for console players

These are console online requirements. They do not impose a console membership on Steam players, and a membership does not automatically include every game edition or cloud-access option. Check the store and account for your region if you are unsure whether your access is active. The platforms guide separates native editions from Xbox Cloud Gaming and Remote Play.

What to check when friends cannot join

Work through these checks before repeatedly sending the same invitation:

1. Confirm that everyone has the full game and available updates installed. Updates matter here because Cross-Play setting errors have received specific fixes.
2. Check Cross-Play on every device. For a mixed-platform party, it should be ON for everyone.
3. Disable PC mods for console crossplay. If you intend to keep mods in a PC-only party, everyone needs the crossplay-disabled pool instead.
4. Check each console player's online access. Confirm the membership, account, and internet requirements above.
5. Try joining again. If it still fails, keep the exact error message, each player's platform and game version, and the Cross-Play and mod settings ready when asking for help.

The September 21, 2026 V1.4.0 hotfix improved PC co-op connectivity and addressed two settings problems: players with different Cross-Play settings could enter the same lobby through a Steam invite, while players with matching settings could be wrongly rejected with a mismatch message.

Those fixes are a reason to check for updates, not a guarantee that every connection error has the same cause. A current mismatch message does not by itself show that either older bug is still active.
